HISTORY
THINK A CENTURY AHEAD
Each decanter is the life achievement of generations of cellar masters. Since its origins in 187 4, each generation of Cellar Master selects from our cellars the oldest and most precious eaux-de-vie for LOUIS XIII. Today, Cellar Master Baptiste Loiseau is setting aside our finest eaux-de-vie, as a legacy to his successors for the coming century. LOUIS XI II is an exquisite blend of up to 1,200 eaux-de-vie sourced 100% from Grande Champagne, the first cru of the Cognac region.
THE MASTERY OF TIME
Named after the French king who protected the Cognac region, LOUIS XIII was created by Paul-Emile Remy Martin in 1874.
Since then, each generation of Cellar Master has selected the oldest and greatest eaux-de-vie from our cellar to compose this unique blend, continuing the work of past masters united in a mutual goal: to produce the distinctive, unparalleled LOUIS XIII signature.
The LOUIS XIII Cellar Master looks to the future while honouring the past, sampling the new eaux-de-vie produced by the best Grande Champagne winegrowers and distillers each year and setting aside only those with the very best ageing potential. Only decades later will these be considered by the next Cellar Master to compose the LOUIS XIII blend of tomorrow.
A VITAL LEGACY With a time span this incredible, each Cellar Master knows that they will not see the fruit of their work. They are a vital link in a human chain, working to transmit the legacy that ensures LOUIS XIII lives on.
BOTTLE-AN ICONIC DECANTER
The LOUIS XIII decanter is hand crafted in fine crystal by the greatest master crystal-makers. It takes eleven craftsmen to accomplish this highly skilled handiwork, using gestures passed down from generation to generation.
The design of today’s decanter was inspired by a royal flask found on the battlefield of Jarnac, fought in 1569. Acquired by Paul-Emile Remy Martin in 1850, its remarkable shapes purred him to model a brand new decanter in order to hold the best of his oldest eaux-de-vie from Grande Champagne. A visionary idea that proved to be an act of pure genius
A MASTERPIECE OF CRYSTAL HANDIWORK
Adorned with fleurs-de-lys, the symbol of French royalty, each crystal decanter is unique.
Individually numbered, with hand pinched dentelle spikes and its neck ringed in 20-caratgold, today’s decanter is topped by a solid crystal fleur-de-lys stopper that stands as proud as a cathedral spire.

TASTING NOTE
LOUIS XIII RARE CASK 42,6 signalled its distinction with an alcohol degree beyond the expected 40 percent, 42,6 degrees. But the level of alcohol is merely a signal. What sets a Rare Cask apart is the quite astonishing richness and intensity of its flavours. At the heart of the composition are those prized autumn flavours of nuts
renowned – no surprise since this cask is by its nature born to the LOUIS XIII tradition.
But a Rare Cask is also blessed with flavours that are all its own.
Alongside those autumn aromas, LOUIS XIII RARE CASK 42,6 declares its distinction with notes of plum and date, mingling with flavours of gingerbread and prune stone, punctuated by a final touch of tobacco leaf
